Baroque Anarchist
An exhibition by Aleksandra Suvorova

The Hyde Gallery is delighted to present Baroque Anarchist, a new exhibition by Aleksandra Suvorova, exploring the dynamic tension between opulence and rebellion, tradition and disruption.

Suvorova’s work inhabits a striking space where classical grandeur collides with contemporary defiance. Drawing inspiration from the theatrical excess of the Baroque period- its ornamentation, drama, and emotional intensity-she simultaneously challenges its rigid hierarchies and established ideals. Her paintings become sites of transformation, where beauty is never passive and elegance carries an undercurrent of unrest.

Through layered compositions, rich textures, and bold contrasts, Suvorova constructs visual narratives that feel both timeless and urgent. Figures emerge and dissolve, suspended between control and chaos, fragility and power. Her work questions inherited structures while celebrating individual freedom, creating a language that is deeply personal yet universally resonant.

At the heart of Baroque Anarchist lies a fascination with contradiction. Suvorova embraces complexity: refinement meets raw instinct, delicacy meets force, and order gives way to spontaneity. This tension energises the collection, inviting viewers to reflect on the systems-social, cultural, and internal-that shape identity and expression.

The exhibition offers an immersive encounter with an artist unafraid to challenge convention. In Suvorova’s world, rebellion is not destruction but creation: the act of reimagining inherited forms into something alive, provocative, and new.

Baroque Anarchist invites us to consider what happens when classical beauty refuses obedience-when ornament becomes resistance, and art becomes an act of liberation.
