Meet the Artists: Baroque Anarchist and Anna Oborotova

18:00 - 20;00 31st May 2024

Baroque Anarchist is the alter ego of Alexandra Suvorova, a London based, visual artist, who sees striking parallels between the contemporary moment and the Baroque epoch. She mines this epoch for artistic guidance and inspiration. Tracing the present to its past, Baroque Anarchist creates contemporary works that are deeply personal, yet unafraid to tackle bold themes and contemporary issues. Art is Alexandra’s refuge and the medium through which she explores her emotions. Years of formal training in fine art, contemporary art and theatre design gave the artist a love of the Baroque. The Baroque epoch was a period of scientific discovery, opulence, and excess. Revolutionary research of that time laid the foundations for modern discovery within anatomy, biology, astrophysics, and information technology. The artist considers her current projects as ways of overcoming mortality, like organ cloning and space exploration, whilst looking back at Baroque artists and engaging with their innovations. Suvorova obtained a BFA in painting and an MFA in stage and costume design at Surikov Art Institute in Moscow, as well as a degree in contemporary painting at Moscow’s Institute of Contemporary Art Issues (CAI) in 2012. In that same year she was awarded a PhD in Theatre Design from the Department of Painting at the Russian Art Academy in Moscow.

Anna Oborotova is a modern London based artist and designer. Having graduated from the Estonian Academy of Art in 2007, Anna moved to London where she now lives and works. Anna creates vibrant and colourful artworks. Her art is bright, emotional, and symbolic. She likes to experiment with different media such as acrylics, pastels, markers and spray paints. Colour is a major point of her artistic style. She virtuously plays with it in all her works. Her inspiration comes from love and nature. Commonly being compared to Gustav Klimt and Byzantine Orthodox icons because of her use of gold leaf, she adds her own contemporary twist to these classic movements and artists.

All are welcome to come and meet both Baroque Anarchist and Anna Oborotova and discuss their upcoming joint exhibition, as well as their previous work,
