When I moved to Southfields, West London I was
coming from a very hectic and stressful phase of my life and moving to this
peaceful corner of this metropolis regenerated me and brought me back to a
better condition mentally and physically. One of the initial signs of this
rebirth happened while doing a long bike ride through Wimbledon, Putney Heath,
Richmond Park and Barnes on a sunny summer day.
After a long while I felt like I was finally
breathing again, fully appreciating the environment I was immersed in.
Feeling inspired by the nature colours and the
hills around the aforementioned areas, I decided to create this artwork which
serves as a metaphor for what I felt that day.
The portraited figure's contours, etched on
perspex glass, delineate what are supposed to be the boundaries that limit the
subject individuality, however, due to their transparency, they dissolve and
vanish revealing underneath a whole unseen world, an energic movement of lines,
colours and shapes.
Exactly like I felt that day walking through the
spectacle of West London's parks and along the river, the subject of the
painting is also finally breathing freely and deeply, allowing the inner realm
of the spirit to fully form, taking shape and connecting with the outside world
in a constant communication which influences both sides mutually.
